The East Side Foothills of Pima County, Arizona, are a unique community. They are home to a diverse group of people and are considered one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. The East Side Foothills have been called the "Silicon Valley of Arizona" because of the many high-tech companies that have been located there since the 1980s.
The East Side Foothills have an interesting history. They were originally discovered by local Native Americans who lived there as early as 10,000 years ago. The first settlers arrived in 1846 when they came westward looking for gold and other precious metals. The area was named "Pima" after a tribe of Native Americans who lived there at the time called themselves "Pima."
In 1856, President Franklin Pierce signed legislation that authorized construction of an Army post in Tucson, which resulted in significant growth for both Tucson and the surrounding areas (including what is now known as Pima County). In 1871, Tucson became incorporated as a town, which set off further growth in other areas including those now known as Marana and Oro Valley (which were established around this time).
